#2293 CutOuts Abstract, 2017

10x14” Letterpress Relief Print / Oil based inks on Cranes Lettra 110 paper / Limited Edition of 40

Printed by The Aesthetic Union in San Francisco, on a Vandercook 219 press

#2293 CutOuts Abstract is a simple composition created with four simple shapes observed in the main room of the mid century modern Eichler home in which it was exhibited. The central circle represents a hanging globe ceiling light from the kitchen area, the wood-textured shapes are derived from the structural interior and wood-panelled walls of the room, the black rectangular shape reflects the darkened corridor beyond. In contrast, the pop of a red Eames chair-back!

I was interested in exploring the idea of atmosphere through abstraction and how you could represent the architecture, as well as the feeling and warmth of a home through seemingly disparate abstract elements.

#2293 Abstract, 2017

13x19” Archival Inkjet Print / Dye based ink on Museum Etching paper 350 gsm / Limited Edition of 5.

This abstract piece is a carefully composed photograph using paper cut outs, that reveal the interplay between form and shadow. Derived from the site specific architectural collage series for ‘Project #2293’, the shapes and textures reflect that of the mid century modern Eichler home in which it was exhibited, and the strong architectural shadows created by the Californian light.
